At Woolpit Primary Academy, our geography curriculum inspires curiosity about the world, starting with the place pupils know best: their own community.
By exploring Woolpit and the surrounding rural landscape, children develop a strong sense of identity, belonging and responsibility. They learn how human and physical geography interact, how daily life is shaped by the environment and how their actions impact their local surroundings. First-hand fieldwork and local studies build essential skills in observation, mapping, enquiry and critical thinking, while seamlessly connecting local learning to a global scale.
We focus on both substantive knowledge (facts about the world) and disciplinary skills (how to think like a geographer). Our curriculum comprehensively covers all key areas within the National Curriculum: locational knowledge, place knowledge, environmental, human, and physical geography, and practical fieldwork skills.
The approach that we undertake fosters informed, responsible and engaged geographers who value their community and understand their role in the wider world. Pupils develop transferable skills that support learning across all subjects while promoting spiritual, moral, social and cultural growth.
Throughout their time at Woolpit Primary Academy, pupils learn about sustainability, community involvement and active citizenship.
